Christ Church Episcopal in Kalispell welcomes Rev. Donnel O’Flynn as the parish’s new priest.
He is a native of Helena, and is the rector at St. Thomas’ Church in Hamilton, New York. O’Flynn and his wife, Janet, have been working to build a trades school in Haiti.
"My real work in Haiti was providing support for Janet as she did heroic labors," O'Flynn said. The new department she is establishing will provide trained occupational and physical therapists in a country where these professions "barely exist but are greatly needed," he said. Rev. O'Flynn taught English to nursing students and assisted at the local Episcopal parish.
Coming back to Montana has been a longtime dream for O'Flynn. He was born in Helena but his parents have strong ties to Kalispell.
"I am looking forward to being in this majestic natural setting and also becoming part of the community," he said. "I'm eager to be part of a spiritual community that nurtures and also reaches out. Christ Church seems to do both. The parish makes an impact in the lives of its members, and also in the social fabric of the town. Being in the middle of so much faith, hope and love should be extremely rewarding."
O’Flynn graduated from Virginia Theological Seminary in 1985, and received his BA degree at St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland, in 1974. He was ordained as a deacon in 1985 at Washington National Cathedral, and was ordained as a priest in 1986 at Christ Church in New Haven, Connecticut.
